Hire an Experienced Litigator.
S. Lance Cox, a seasoned litigator and trial attorney with nearly 25 years of experience, has a general civil litigation, legal drafting, and business counsel practice. Lance is "AV" rated by Martindale-Hubble, which is the distinguished "preeminent" rating for the highest level of competency and ethics among attorneys. He earned his B.A. in History and German from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville (1994), and his law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville (1998).
Lance has won numerous types of cases he has tried to Arkansas juries since graduating from law school and becoming an attorney in 1998, including professional (medical, dental, legal, and engineering) negligence, personal injury, business, fraud, real estate, construction, and other cases; and he has successfully tried a countless number of domestic relations and other non-jury trial cases over the years. As a result, his clients have been awarded or otherwise been protected from hundreds of thousands and, in some cases millions of dollars in judgments or settlements.
Lance is admitted to practice in every city, state, county, and federal court in Arkansas, and in the United States Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit. He has experience in Multi-District Litigation ("MDL") cases, including product liability cases, and in civil and criminal cases, including white collar criminal cases, in both state and federal court.
Lance earned his German fluency certificate from the Goethe Institute in 1993, and he served on the University of Arkansas School of Law Honor Council from 1996-1998; he was Chairman of the Honor Council in 1998. He currently serves on Alumni Board for the University of Arkansas School of Law.
Lance was born and raised in Fayetteville, and he loves to write, coach and watch baseball, follow Razorback Athletics, play the guitar, and fish. Most of all, he loves his kids, and family.
Lance and his father, Walter Cox (1941-2020), first practiced law together at the law firm of Davis, Cox & Wright, from 1998 to 2000, where Walter was a senior partner and had practiced since graduating from law school in 1966. In 2000, Walter and Lance co-founded the Cox Law Firm, which would later become "Cox, Cox & Estes," and they practiced together until shortly before Walter's passing in 2020.
Walter was one of the winningest jury trial attorneys in Arkansas History, having won more than 300 jury trials and lost fewer than 10 over the course of a more than 50-year career. He was also one of the most well-liked and respected attorneys in Arkansas, and he is the reason Lance wanted to go to law school and become an attorney.
Lance learned a lot from his father, including the basic principle that one's effectiveness as a litigator is largely determined by his willingness and ability to try and win cases. Lance will tell you he did not go to law school to learn how to settle cases; he wanted to try cases, and to learn how to do it well, like his dad. Being an attorney who has proven he is not afraid of the courtroom is critical to becoming a good litigator who can obtain a good outcome for a client, whether you take a case to trial or not.
